NICE KITTY....Port Angeles Wa to Victoria BC on to Pacific Rim Canadian National Park-

Clearing away from Black Ball Ferry dock in Port Angeles, Wa.   Sunny day!!

Receding view of Olympic Penninsula, Wa.

Foredeck view as we approach Victoria, BC.  Great anchor windlasses for ship enthusiasts

Float plane taxis past us as we approach Victoria dock.
Vintage sail, two rafted up in Victoria harbor

This sign confirms that we are not in Plessis NY or anywhere like it now - what a place......

Your basic mountain lion/cougar/puma, your name of choice, sadly intoxicated after being brought down with a tranquilizer dart.  The location of this event?   He (the cat) was found appx 3 blocks from the Victoria ferry dock, strolling about the streets, local passersby called the conservation guys to encourage a relocation.  He was found a few hours before we docked......
A cow tag in his ear, man, what a hangover when he awakes the next day in the middle of the provincial forest.  British Columbia has the largest concentration of big cats in North American, largely centered on Vancouver Island, more so than on the mainland.

Roadside view, somewhere in Vancouver Island, BC

A little choo-choo by the side of the road, Lima works.  Open bevel gearsets, universal joints, sliding telescoping shafts for tight circle turns, what's not to like???   One for the gearheads reading this blog...

  1. Now THAT is a Shay locomotive -- vertical cylinders on the right with shaft drives running underneath to all the powered trucks -- unmistakable. Gotta love those open bevel gears.
"Keep your necktie outta there Chester!"

So you've found a Shay and a Heisler -- chase down a "Climax" now and you will have checked off all the N.A. logging loco boxes...
