Friday South Beach to Phil's

Lighthouse on South Oregon coast

Oregon coast - not a warm and friendly beach - this is low tide, quite a bit of beach, black sand.

Machinery alongside the road near Tillamook - this is a miniature, maybe 1/3 scale, 4-8-4 operational steam loco, not a silly sheet metal thing.  No one knew anything about its history.  Long firetube boiler, safety valves, it was all there.

A pair of strange mutts, the log flatbed is a White, unsure what the COE water tanker is.  Both basically intact.

Steam windlass for hauling logs - looked to me like a marine anchor windlass fastened to timbers to be dragged up mountain roads for timber harvesting.  Boiler looked a fright...

I guess we hit a RR town here - this and the next two are part of the rolling stock of a vintage line in central coastal Oregon.

When you got downwind of that steamer, it was hard to breathe, I mean, that was some nasty low-grade coal they were firing.   Now that's realism, yessirree.....

The next few are views from overlooks of the coast, lots of beaches, lots of elevation of the roadway to get over and around the terrain.  Fog rolling in, makes for strange views.

The fog started to roll in so that ended the picture taking for the day.  Drove up to see Phil and got a wonderful tour of the facility he works at.  We were truly impressed.

Had a wonderful dinner in Portland with Phil and Lorna and a good nights rest in a comfy bed!!  Thanks Phil and Lorna!

Next day... off to Mt St. Helens.
