Gold River BC....

The remains of Hurricane Ono moving into shore...  expecting 8"of rain in the next few days and winds up to 45 knots...  have reservations at a local Bed and Breakfast for Thursday and Friday nights. This lowered lake (drought, remember?) is about 200' from our tent site, LOTS of big cat tracks in the sand on the beach.  We'll sleep with one ear listening....

A sailboat dockside at the village of Gold River, BC.  Louise's uncle Roma and Aunt Gisele lived here for a few years when he worked at the pulp mill, now shuttered.

Logs,logs,logs.... this area is all about resources of the land - logs, timber - and the sea, fishing.  Not an easy life, and not one to put a smile on the face of an environmentalist.....

All that remains of the mill is that standing white tall building in the background - the site is now used solely for staging shipment of logs out via the sea.

Louise and the little Miata that could, at the entrance sign.  Raining again...

Strathcona is the largest park on Vancouver Island.

These next few shots show the wispy clouds that come and go at different heights, and create an eerie appearance,  I am convinced that the Hobbit movie could have been done here with ease - could a dragon be in this place?  Why not?

Low water levels obvious here - this was all under water last year...

A cold and eerie beauty to this land and sea on a rainy and  overcast day....
Lake Buttle, Vancouver Island.   Could just as well be Loch Ness.   But the Loch doesn't have cougars slinking about, this place does.   In those wet, green hillsides are the big cats, estimated to be over 700 on this island, and increasing in numbers.  On average, some 4 cat attacks per year are reported on humans.   I wonder if it makes sense to put catnip around your campsite, see if they can go crazy on the stuff and lose interest in you.....  Just sayin'.....
